IMPACTING LIFE’S DISASTERS

 #4 The Power of Praise

By Pastor George Lehman

“The way to remove mountains is the way of praise”

They say: Well done is better than well said.

Daniel 11:32(b) AMP:- “The people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits for God”.

#1            You’ve got what it takes

#2            Getting the most out of our storms

#3            Get good seed in the ground.

“The greater the odds the more determined you must become to overcome them”.

I want us to look at The Power of Praise to Impact Life’s Disasters.

Our scripture reading is from the prophet

Habakkuk 3:17-19 Amplified Bible (AMP)

17 Though the fig tree does not blossom. And there is no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive fails. And the fields produce no food, Though the flock is cut off from the fold And there are no cattle in the stalls, 18 Yet I will [choose to] rejoice in the Lord;
I will [choose to] shout in exultation in the [victorious] God of my salvation!
19 The Lord God is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army]; He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds’ feet And makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility].

In general, the book of Habakkuk is a book about complaining and murmuring.

It is a bit like we are at times.  But he closes off very positively.

It was written into a praise song with all the nonsense happening around him.

He fully affirms who his source of power, strength and ability is.

There is an untapped power in praise.  Many of you may be thinking – “is he going to want us to praise again?” You say “I’m not the praising kind, Lifting my hands kinda stuff”.

What is a lifestyle of praise?

Praise is more than singing.  It means you don’t only have to be a singing type to have power from praise.

Otherwise I would be a 103kg spiritual weakling

 What is it then?

Definition:- Praise is an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE.

Expressed (uitgedruk) by :-

  1. Always being thankful
  2. Always being joyful
  3. Always thinking good
  4. Always speaking good
  5. Always behaving good
  6. Always keep on praying.

 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 (AMP)

16 Rejoice always and delight in your faith; 17 be unceasing and persistent in prayer; 18 in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench [subdue or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit.

Praise is always an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE.

You say its hard – cause people, things, situations, circumstances make me feel negative, down, unhappy.

That is not true, you make yourself feel that way – is your choice.

Don’t blame your feelings on others.  You are responsible for your own emotions (Do you actually realize this?)

If you control your own emotions or your emotions will control you. Always choose a positive attitude.

Proverbs 15:15 :- “When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong.  When he is cheerful, everything seems to go right”.

Proverbs 17:22 :- “A happy heart is good like medicine, and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit makes one sick”.

Remember, your inner attitude is made up of your thoughts and feelings.

The truth is if you are going to control your inner thoughts and feelings – you’ll control your attitude.

Here is the key to a “Life of Praise”

A positive attitude is the foundation for a life of praise.

Philippians 2 :5 “Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ,”

Note, Depending how you build on your foundation Jesus when the storms come, you either stand or crumble.

The most important choice you make everyday is the choice of your attitude.

It is the opinion you adopt for the day that will determine your attitude.

(Please realize this always – it is not God, your wife, your work, your storms that is responsible for your attitude – It is YOU!).

Like any discipline, your attitude will not take care if itself.

That is why you need to attend to it daily.

If you make sure your attitude is on track – if it starts on the right track – it is more than likely to end up at the right destination.

God loves a positive attitude.

Here is another key principle – your attitude towards life will determine life’s attitude towards you.

(Remember – sowing and reaping). What you put into life you will get out of it.

Proverbs 15:15 :- “When a man is gloomy, everything seems to go wrong, when he is cheerful everything seems to go right”.

Praise releases God’s awesome presence and power into my problem areas.

When you get up each day and say, “Good morning Lord”, instead of, “Good Lord, it is morning”.

How do I develop a lifestyle of praise?

 STEP 1

Fill your HEART with GRATITUDE.

Colossians 2:7 :- “Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all He has done”.

Always CHOOSE the right ATTITUDE.

How?  By controlling your THOUGHTS and FEELINGS.

Your feelings will lie to you, believe the Word of God.

 STEP 2

Fill your MOUTH with PRAISE.

Ephesians 5:18-20 (NLT)

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Always choose appropriate (gepaste) UPBUILDING speech by GUARDING your lips.

Only use your lips to sing – to testify – to confess – to pray – to encourage – to bless.

 STEP 3

Fill your LIFE with good DEEDS.

Matthew 5:16 :- “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify  your Father who is in heaven”.

Always choose APPROPRIATE (gepaste) actions by CONTROLLING your BEHAVIOUR.

A behaviour that will bring honour to God – showing He really lives.

Let your life cause others to want to serve Jesus.

With regards to our Deed/Conduct/Actions/Behaviour.

Revelation 19:8 :- “She has been permitted to dress in fine (radiant) linen, dazzling and white – for the fine linen is (signifies, represents) the righteousness (the upright just and Godly living, deeds and conduct and right standing with God) of the saints (God’s holy people)”.

Heavens wardrobe to dress yourself with when you get there.
